Mistakes Were Made
Haha, so guess who's freaking out because she did the wrong week's assignment? THIS GIRL! Can you tell it's been an off week for me? I finally broke down this week. But HEY at least I figured out my flaw before the due date! Yay~
So, I'm here to answer some questions about the CNC Mill.
So, I'm here to answer some questions about the CNC Mill.
What is a CNC Mill?
Have you ever wanted to "drill" into metal? Is your 3D printing plastic just not cutting it anymore? Do you want a machine that cuts things fast, with little mess? Then my friends you need a CNC mill! It's a rotary cutter, so not jagged cutting but circular motions with the drill bit to widdle away the metal design.
What Type of Mill Does My School Have?
We have the Tormach 440. Pretty new. I think. I'm not up to date on these kinds of things.
What Software is Used to Set Up Your Design?
Fusion 360! Have never gone on it before so don't come to me fore help. Look it up on YouTube.
What Does This Software Do?
You take a part you've already created, upload it and set up your tool to see how this thing will print! Oversimplified explanation but it gives you the right concept.
What Are 3 Things I've Learned About the Mill?
Well, it doesn't go at horsepower speed, about 10,000 RPM which is about 0.4 horsepower. Also, it does a fantastic job at engraving! You just need the right tool for the right job. Finally, normally this thing has a mechanism that sprays away the little metal shards that could damage your design which is nice.
If I Could Make ANYTHING With the Mill... What Would it Be?
Summary
You remember that one time you had to learn about a brand new software program and how to use a machine without being in the physical classroom? Yeah me neither. COVID has really hit hard on my learning experience for how to use the CNC mill. I was really excited! I'm hoping I can jump into next year at least with a bit of knowledge still left in this brain of mine. This will be hard for all of us, luckily Fusion 360 is a dumb program and so are we. Two dummies can work just fine together, YouTube comes in handy as well. It's fine if you don't understand everything right now, but just have an image in your mind of what all this is. As always, even if we're stuck at home, have fun creating.
